Making New Friends in Australia

Making New Friends in Australia

Coming to Australia was the greatest opportunity, a lottery-winning satisfaction, despite not knowing what the disadvantages and advantages of living in Australia are.

Some challenges I have faced are, first of all, adapting to a new lifestyle. Moving to a diverse country suddenly had a great impact on my lifestyle as we have very different cultures. The living standards were totally different. The second was the language and communication barrier. As I was raised speaking a different language, it was very hard for me to communicate with others thinking that I would cause misunderstandings and misinterpretations. Even cultural beliefs made me keep a distance from people who believe in different cultures as I thought I might say something discriminating or disgraceful unintentionally and this made me feel like I was in a small box with less space sometimes. Lastly, I would say the changes in the roles of family members was challenging. Living in a new country, not knowing anything, we need to support each other and need teamwork always because if somebody in the family fails, the other family member should support or help them. This will make family members achieve more and become successful very fast.

Advantages of being in Australia that I experienced are the many opportunities e.g job opportunities and career opportunities. There are also many places to explore. Australia being a diverse country is also an advantage. Restaurants and dishes from all across the world, interesting festivals and gaining knowledge about other cultures. However, making new friends is the best experience I have had living in Australia.
